Phineas T. J. Craige returned to Lime Rock Park for the first time in two years to run in the Lime Rock Driver's Club spec Miata race on Saturday.

Working off the rust in practice Jim's pace was good but not quite up to that of Dan Moen or Anthony Geraci. Jim qualified 3rd ahead of John Posey who was driving a 1.6 liter ssm Miata while Jim, Don and Anthony were in newer heavier 1.8 liter sm Miata's.

At the start Jim held 3rd for 2 laps until John Posey passed him on lap 3. They traded P3 a few times until Jim pulled away as John's older tires started to fade. Jim put his head down and spent the next ten laps closing the gap to Dan Moen in P2. It took a couple more laps for Jim to get around Dan and then set his sites on Anthony. With the laps winding down it didn't look like there would be enough time to catch the leader but all the rust fell away and Jim narrowed the gap with brilliant late braking into big bend on the white flag lap putting him on... Quentin Wahl, Gus Doppes, Bill Shields, John Jastremski, Doug Tuttle, John Schauerman and Pat Daly are going west to not act their age in the former Russel School F3 cars that have carbon fibre tubs, 6 speed sequential gearboxes, big wings, Mitsubishi Evo turbocharged motors, slicks and serious downforce, now run by SimRaceway at Sonoma. What could possibly go wrong?

Jastremski, Tuttle, Doppes and Schauerman have already had some seat time in these cars. That leaves Wahl, Shields and Daly in the steep part of the downforce learning curve when they do the SimRaceway winter series in mid December at Sonoma and mid January and February at Laguna.

Since none of us are spring chickens we figured we should check this off our bucket list before we get too old to wrestle these cars through a corner.

There should be... [Read More]

I have wanted to do a HPDE event for a long time. I learned of the GM discount for C7 buyers shortly before taking delivery of my C& in BG in June. Went to Ron Fellows Spring Mountain end of July. Did the three day level one class. Absolutely hooked. In May I am going back to repeat the last day of level one before following up with the two day level two class.

Thinking ahead, the question "Where do I go from there?" began to present itself. I've known of Skip Barber's school for a long time so I started doing research. Sounds like that's the answer to "Where do I go next?"

Not signed up for anything yet, but I suspect I will for a two day advanced course sometime after Spring Mountain.

After returning from Spring Mountain last August I ordered several books on race driving to kind of follow up on what I'd learned in class. Prior to that class I had never realized just how much more racing relies on skill than the ability of a car to go fast.... [Read More]

From: Formula1.com 8/21/14

American rookie Alexander Rossi will make his Grand Prix race debut this weekend in Belgium after being drafted in as a late replacement for Max Chilton at Marussia.

The team said Chilton, who has raced for the Banbury-based squad since 2013, was being substituted "while contractual issues are resolved".

Rossi, 22, only joined Marussia as test and reserve driver last month having previously served a similar role at Caterham, contesting four Friday practice sessions over the past three seasons.

"It goes without saying that I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to race in Formula 1 for the first time," Rossi said. "I cannot thank the Marussia F1 Team enough for the faith they are demonstrating in me.

"It's a very big moment for me and there's a lot to prepare in a short space of time, but on the other hand I have felt ready for this for quite a while now.

"It is... [Read More]
