New Racing Format Added To Eastern Series

As you all are aware the Skip Barber Eastern Race Series runs four times each season at Lime Rock Park. Two of those races are run on the full 1.57 circuit, with each of the other two races using different course layouts - the chicane in the uphill for one and a right-hander in Turn One for the other.

In an effort to enliven the Eastern Race Series Championship, Skip Barber Racing is pleased to announce that this season's race finale at Lime Rock will be run in a counter-clockwise direction. That's right, backwards! This new format will give drivers four completely different tracks on which to race to the championship in addtion to the other eastern series venues at Barber Park, VIR, Mt. Tremblant, CA., and the granddaddy of them all Watkins Glen.

We'd like to get your feedabck on this new race series format and ask you to take the poll provided to us by the people at Team Juicy Racing. For all of those who have been with us at the track this year, thank you. For those of you who are thinking about joining us, now is the time and Lime Rock Park in October is the place!

So which way do we go?

As you know, I often point the wrong way on the track anyway! So the direction I start out facing is quite inconsequential.

Re: New Racing Format Added To Eastern Series

I think the new Downhill would be interesting. You wont have to worry about hitting the rail since you'll fly right over it. That's a good thing too since I don't think there's a lot of room for a tire barrier.

Call it Launching Turn ...........let's do it

I'm confused. If we do the course backwards, will West Bend now be called East Bend? And then will no-name straight be called name-no straight, or will it be called 'thgiarts eman-on'? Please help.

Re: New Racing Format Added To Eastern Series

With or without the chicane? New downhill could be undriveable without the chicane.

Rain line in the new downhill would be VERY scary...

Why the change...did you guys get more tow trucks and you don't know what to do with them?

Re: New Racing Format Added To Eastern Series

How is New Downhill any more scary than old Uphill? I don't see any difference. I'll still try to do it flat. There's gotta be a way.

No-Name Straight could be renamed "If you're here, you're lucky you didn't go swimming at Lauching Turn aka New Downhill"

Hey, with MarinoCam, we could do better than the Burt Reynolds "I know how to race approve a driver who's got a twisted ankle" movie Driven by sailing cars into the river!

Okay, I'm done now.

Re: New Racing Format Added To Eastern Series

Let's light this candle!

Prior to this race, the blue trees of Watkins await... By the time I get done turning my little Skippy sled into tapioca at The Glen, I'll have enough car parts to field a small Skippy Lite series. Couple of parts collections after a few launches off the top of the uphill, and I'll be hanging with the big dogs, ready to start my own "It ain't your car, let 'er rip!" series!

Wheeeee!

Re: New Racing Format Added To Eastern Series

As a nod to Laguna Seca, when the reverse chicane is used it will henceforth be known as, "The Skippyscrew".

Full time sprinklers and bright yellow Teflon sheeting will be installed on the entire length of the reverse No Name Straight justifying its new moniker, "Slip 'N Slide For Life Straight"

The new downhill will be renamed the Hal Needham, John Landis FWUPOAS corner (Flying Wadded Up Pile Of Automotive Scrap corner) All cars will be outfitted with airbags (not to protect the drivers against impact but to provide flotation for those who clear the Armco and reach the pond). Laser readers will be installed to determine height and distance awards. Automatic cameras will also be installed to record the carnage and efforts will be made to sell the stock footage to Hal Needham and John Landis.

Given the lack of run off or escape road at the end of the reverse Main Straight, Jocko Jacopino (the only man alive capable of the task) will be positioned to catch errant Skippy cars by hand. Jocko will provide added entertainment value for late arrivals and West Bend watchers by tossing the cars toward West Bend, up over the infield bridge.

The midway will feature a tented all female World Wrestling Entertainment Smackdown event (guest hosted by Phil Lombardi! :-) and for just this one weekend LRP will be renamed LRAP... Lime Rock Amusement Park, the Extreme Road Racing Center of the East.

"Dude... like... count me in. I am so totally there man." :-)

Disassociated Racing Writers wire service, August 20th, 2004

Press Conference Inner Course Golf Resort & Spa, Pondsville, CT, August 19th, 2004

Hop Baker owner of the Lyme Tick Trailer and Amusement Park is pleased to throw his full support behind the new Eastern Series Race Series announced earlier this week by Skippy Race Director, Mr. Thomas "Carr" Glider.

Mr. Baker is quoted as saying, "I think the new format announced by the Skippy people is a wonderful idea and will give them my full support for the upcoming event!" Also at today's press conference, Mr. Otto Butcher, Hop Baker's track manager geefully announced that any plans to repave the race course have now been put on hold "indefinitely, if not longer..." pending the new October event's crash damage tally.

CDH... You are scary good with all things visual and auditory, moving and still. Love the shadow detail with the flying cars. This is a masterpiece. I would happily pay for a printed copy when you're done fine tuning it, as I imagine others might as well.

Proving once again that I have way too much time on my hands, (or in most cases too little sleep...)

New adds appear to be:

Look Ma - No Hander
The scoreboard parking area (I think?)
New Parachute Landing area
New Auriemma Straight
The Chaching (chicane)
The False Hope Grid

That's all I see.

Re-open the poll, daggummit! I'm in.

Can't be any more expensive for me running the Rock backwards than it was the other way

BTW, Doug, that track map is an absolute masterpiece. Should be in the Lime Rock Museum. I'm still laughing...

thanks, I had help with some of the corner names, Martin's Eau Magawd one of the best, and Jimmy Craige got the distinction for his televised, er...incident on No Name (no JC, I wont show link, they can find it if they look hard enough )

I am in! Since I figured out a way to crash on a straight section of track, it won't really matter which way I am going.

I have the technology to repeat.

Not only that, you're stronger, faster, better than you were before! (cue theme music)

Pretty hilarious clip, Jim (not that hard to find ). Especially the part where you're looking around as you're trying to get the car fired: "Hey, maybe no one saw that..."

Yeah, trying to get the car going forward after I drilled the drive shaft into the engine was, at best, optimistic. My thoughts at the time that perhaps the damage would not hit the "incident" level were a few thousand dollars optimistic as well!!!

I still think that running the track in the opposite direction has tremendous value for Skippy. After several run groups take the RTs through the new downhill, they will not have to worry about finding buyers for the old cars! Parts? Yes. Cars? No.

Not trying to be a goody-two-shoes, but we could always "chicane" out when we're running the other way (there ya go, Doug)-- we'd get a few more sessions in before we ran through the entire RT inventory...and the cars might stay on this side of the fence...

Eau Magawd, that actually sounds doable! Todd-- are ya listening? Todd?

Where I go? You mean "chicane out" as in Mr. Chicane? Where it's Chicane, Chicane, Chicane, All Chicane, All the Time?
