Exclamation Re: 2004 Canadian GP - Results & Standings

IMPORTANT NOTE: In case you haven't heard, both BMW and Toyota were disqualified after the race for using over-sized brake ducts. Let's just say that their drivers weren't thrilled about it. Niether team appealed the decision. Here's the story:

Canadian GP - A report from trackside

All I can say is I can't wait till next year.

Three days of blue skies, warm weather, excellent food, good friends, and a Sunday afternoon "walk around the park" to end what was a perfect weekend. We even got in some track time of our own at Grand Prix Karting of Quebec. Big thanks to Michael for masterminding the whole event and to Martin for two great dinner venues (and what venues they were).

There is nothing like the sound of an F1 car in the morning. Especially when you're standing twenty feet away as it brakes from 180mph for a 35 mph harpin and then blasts away in a blur of color in the opposite direction as quickly as it had arrived. A cup of coffee in one hand and a fresh crepe in the other-it just doesn't get any better (That is unless you're Michael and you have a crepe in each hand!). And it wasn't just the F1 sessions that made for an interesting race weekend. The BMW race on Sunday was particularly entertaining, boasting an on-track mating (see caption competition) of Mr. Rahal and Mr. Montoya. And then, in a not to be repeated any time soon incident in the harpin, two BMW's previewed their syncronized swimming routine for the upcoming Summer Olympics by spinning off and turning back on to the track AGAINST TRAFFIC in perfect unison. The historic F1 was race also provided some entertainment (if not a pending lawsuit) as two beautiful cars were taken off track in an overtaking move at the apex of a sweeping left hander. Dumb and dumber. Then of course their was Mr. Sato, who drives like he's just been told he'll be replaced next year by a promising young North Korean! It's like he can't make the car KABLAMO fast enough. And then there was Massa's crash - godamn scary as it happened right in front of us. And I didn't even see the tire come over the wall and hit the women (some 20 rows below us). I was frozen on the sight of Massa's helmet as the car (and he) disappeared into the tire wall and then was shot back out by the force of the tirewall's compression. Later we walked the circuit to the place where he left the track, and even though it's a long way from the bracking zone to that wall, he crossed the distance in very, very short order.

As for the team Juicy F1 competion, a big congrats to mpowa and fitilehpeach with tie in first place and a huge 42 points apiece (a repeat of last week for mpowa by the way). Birkmama and Sy in a close second and third, 36 and 30 points respectively. At the bottom of the finishing order there was CMAC, Rays Royce, and former fantasy F1 leader jcraige. But in a feat that few of any of us could ever hope to achieve Mr. Auriemma scored his second F1 weekend zero, no score, nil, naught, nothing, none, nada, zip, donut, bubkiss weekend. Amazing! Threepeat?
As for the new F1 fantasy points leader, well let's just say that journalistic ethics suggests that since he's writing this piece he best keep his big mouth shut - at least until next week.

It's not my fault!

I made good picks...

Ralf... 2nd place.... CHEATER
Juan... 5th place... CHEATER
Olivier... 9th place... would have been 7th after disqualifications if he wasn't a CHEATER
BMW....CHEATERS EVERY ONE!

And Sato.... what more can I say... someday he'll manage to keep the sharp end pointed forward and win one of these things!
