GPL on a Vista computer???
Has anyone tried to run Grand Prix Legends on a Vista machine? I can't get it to load.

Re: GPL on a Vista computer???
I managed to get GPL running on a vista machine a few years back, but it took a bit of sleuthing.
My memory is fuzzy, but I needed to load some sort of upgrade before it would run on vista. Try googling "Grand Prix Legends Vista Patch" and I think it will get you to a web site with a GPL installer tool you can download that will pull in the necessary patches to get GPL running on Vista.
My vote for sim racing these days would be iRacing, assuming you're willing to put up with the monthly fee. The laser scanned tracks are an order of magnitude better than the tracks in GPL.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot for old time's sake. It really looks dated compared to newer sims.
iRacing seems to be the way to go, driving familiar tracks. I want to see if a newer wheel and pedals can compensate for the absence of any kind or road feel which has always been my excuse for being an awful sim racer.

Re: GPL on a Vista computer???
I've found that the Logitech G25 wheel works quite well in iRacing. I used to use the original Logitech Force feedback wheel in GPL, and got OK results, although it took a LOT of tinkering with force and time delay parameters to get a good feel, and even then the wheel had a tendency to oscillate during corner exit if I didn't hold the wheel firmly. In iRacing with the G25, the setup was quite simple, the feedback about what the front tires are doing is good, and I've never had even a hint of corner exit oscillation, which makes me think that between the wheel designers and the sim programmers, they've finally gotten a handle on the feedback control loop equations necessary to make the force feedback concept work properly.
