So with the right interface, for less than the initial cost of a season of regional Skippy racing we could all have a 3-D virtual series and race each other at any track on the planet with no crash damage... What's not to like?
However... Truth be told I think most of us would rather be in a real race car on a real track racing with other passionate like minded lunatics.
It's the instructor feedback, the human learning curve, the weather, the smell of a locked tire or slipping clutch, the local people, the dinners together, the kidding and camaraderie. You can't quite get that in your basement with a bunch of hydraulic tubes, a computer, video monitors and a headset.
For me the real attraction of 3-D virtual racing is for those, like myself, who endure harsh winters. The fun is racing full out at the track of your choosing with good friends when it's 18 degrees and snowing outside.... But this is already available minus the dynamic hydraulics with iRacing.
