Re: Road Atlanta -- Who's Going???

Ahh wow, i literally was just about to make a thread with the SAME EACT title! Beat me to it! I will be attending this race weekend and doing a lapping, practice and Regional race weekend. I Will be arriving in Atlanta late tue. night as i have to attend some classes during the day and get out at 430pm than straight to the airport! I never checked the weather forecast and seam's like rain will be making its presence! Thank god i'm a big big fan of rain! hahaha lol. i did my end day of my 3 day all in the rain and learned a lot and learned i was very good and fast in the rain! I was about 3rd fastest of the group in the dry and when the rain came, i seamed to be much more comfortable pushing through the corner's than the other guys that were faster than me during the dry. Also, during my 2 day adv it rained in the morning which def. helped to cool me off as it was mid summer (around the same time as this year, end of july).

This is gonna be my 2nd race weekend and really looking foreword to finally be able to run on a track i've been on before! I did fairly moderate on my 1st race weekend on a unknown track so hopefully some better results but results comes from being relaxed and having as much fun as possible so def. stoked for this weekend!!!!

p.s.: Sorry for being away on the forums for a while. Ive been working a lot (to pay off this race-weekend, hotel, travel etc) and taking summer classes so have not had much time to post up! Def. have been taking a peak when ever had a chance!

Who else is coming to Road Atlanta!????!!!!

I know its (Regionals) combined with Nationals this weekend so it should def. be fun seeing them run! Also, gonna be my first time running the slick tires so def. gonna be fun! Now i can finally take turn 12 wot w/o catching the rear when the track is slick and being blacked flagged and than told to go play the lotto bec. they thought i was into the wall for sure! hahaha... looking foreword to seeing some of you guys again!

Hey Andor,
Great to see you back again. I'm waiting for the heat and rain to arrive at LRP in August. Won't be in Atlanta but I'm sure you'll have a great time there. Keep us posted and tell us what you learn.

Rain or not, plan on being sopping wet when you climb out of your car. 90 F temp + predicted 66% humidity = heat index of 103 F. If it gets to 92 then we're talking HI of 109. Welcome to summer in the South, y'all. This is MY kind of weather! Can't wait...

Re: Road Atlanta -- Who's Going???

Current 10 day forecast according to weather.com calls for a high of 97F and 65% humidity next Friday. That works out to a heat index of 125.

Now we know why NEITHER Paul NOR Pat will be there, either singly or in combination.

All the rest of ya, bring your parasols. Hey, KnightRider, can we arrange for a hot tub filled with ICE??

this is a great idea - we should get one of those 'portable' pools and set it up as close to pit lane as possible :P

Actually, what most of us have done in the past is hang out in the AIR CONDITIONED meeting room for as long as possible until needing to go down and get in our cars. While in the meeting room, we drank copious amounts of water, Gatorade, and other fluids. Staying inside and definitely out of the sun is vital next week. Do not leave your helmet or suit in the direct sunlight. It will be HOT.

Re: Road Atlanta -- Who's Going???

I'm all for the air-conditioned meeting room, but the pool and the sprinklers sound like a lot more fun. Get out of the car, run through the sprinklers, jump in the pool till your next session....bring a Good Humor truck around and it'll be perfect!

Harsha, because you are driving (and not flying where they impose all kinds of baggage restrictions) please bring a bunch of golf umbrellas. If we are in different race groups, I will umbrella for you if you will umbrella for me.

Re: Road Atlanta -- Who's Going???

Nothing like getting out of the car and running through sprinklers into a pool! That would be soo amazing! At the gym, i was working out abs/core and i remembered it was gonna be soo hott in Road Atlanta i decided to do the work-out in the sauna! I'll say i'm preparing! haha We should make an umbrella holder that will let any umbrella slide onto the roll bar and when the car's need to leave pit lane, they just slide right off! So no need of an umbrella man! lol Just one person to come around to all the car's to take them off right before we go

I think Andor's roll bar umbrella holder is a WalMart trip away from happening.

Re: Road Atlanta -- Who's Going???

The forecast has evened out. Looks like temps hovering around 90 degrees with 72 percent humidity all week. Hot but much better than 97.
The heat/humidity index for 90 degrees and 72 percent humidity is about 108 degrees. Way better than 125 but humidity will be the bear.

I figured it was likely noisy data (being such an outlier), but couldn't pass up the opportunity to have some fun in the sun with the heat index calculator

Hey Doug-- I think we need a chop of our dear Kelly juggling a camera, cell phone, and umbrella. Cover of the calendar.

Just got in from two hours working in the yard. We've got the 80/80 thing going here in KY. Not that hot, but by the end I could not have been wetter if I had hosed myself down. Which I ended up doing. Probably a pretty good preview of what awaits further South.

I am now checked in at the Holiday Inn Express, and it is around 90 degrees, but not a lot hotter than it was in Connecticut. I think it is below 80/80 on the heat index. Am about to head out to I-85 with a sign begging someone to be an umbrella person for me this week since all of my friends (?!) apparently have other things to do.

I'm sure some of the National kids would do it for relatively cheap...

So, how did it go? Do you have a radio gig now? (If you don't have a long-lost radio voice, then you probably shoulda worn hot pants.)

Tell you what, Ted. I brought umbrellas. I will umbrella for you for the entire week for a $200 contribution to the Mechanics Fund. Hell, I'll do it for anyone for that.

Re: Road Atlanta -- Who's Going???

Nice examples. I resemble the first one and definitely appreciate all the advantages in the third one (and they are vast and multifaceted). The guy in the middle, well, he's basically the guy in the middle. And from the expression on his face, looks like he knows it.

First day update: No umbrellas really needed today. Warm, brilliantly sunny, but very pleasant, not overly humid, with a nice breeze from time to time. Once your clothes got damp it was nice and comfortable.

This is such a challenging track to get right-- Lot of work to do before the weekend!

Re: Road Atlanta -- Who's Going???

Just checked in holiday in express... wow, the ride from the airport to here usually isn't bad but with the construction work they have going on at night, was in about 45 min stop and go traffic for about 2 miles... and the sad part was it was the last 2 miles really to the hotel so it sucked!!! But here now, checked in, settled in, gonna go out and grab a bight to eat than sleep. Tomorrow's gonna be exciting!

Re: Road Atlanta -- Who's Going???

Looks like NYC and Lime Rock will have Atlanta beat with temps of 95 & 94 over Atlanta's 91 today... But Atlanta wins with significantly higher humidity. Stay hydrated boys and girls.

Re: Road Atlanta -- Who's Going???

When I downloaded the timing and scoring app read reviews that said it only worked at the track... That doesn't appear to be the case as I'm sitting in CT now getting live lap times from the Atlanta lapping sessions. Pretty cool. The usual suspects up front. :-)

Scott Anderson, Trent Hindman, Sebastian Ordonez, Shelby Blackstock and Brandon Newey are in the 35's. Most everyone else in 36's. You've got your work cut out for you Andor. Good luck.

Looks like it's only an iPhone or Droid app.

hahha the track was a secondish slower the 2nd round and never had a clear track to run.. when i tried to draft, the car infront was under powered but i def. felt way comfortable all the way around! lol.. I was a second slower this time around but still managed to keep same position, 8th out of 18.. so not bad, middle pack.. hopefully i can make some moves during quali to get up there!

Re: Road Atlanta -- Who's Going???

I see I'm missing all the fun sitting here on the runway in Detroit Thursday night at 7:30pm. Delta and I are now officially divorced. I'll see you all tommorow where I will need to qualify cold turkey.

This could be ugly..
