Alumni Reunion

Some interest has been generated in having an "Alumni Reunion" race group at Sebring February 14-15. This is still just an idea proposed by a couple of former SBRS racers but it seems to be gaining some traction (ok I couldn't help it...). As fate would have it Skippy is running an incentive program for former racers that offers a free Practice day for returnees who sign up prior to 12/31/08 for a race weekend in the Southern or Western series. If you're not racing in the Daytona 500 and you may be interested let an SSA, Todd or even me know so SBRS can determine if we can have a designated race group. Also, which car, Formula or MX5 or both?
This could be big fun!

Re: Alumni Reunion

Hey Don, good to hear from ya, this sounds like a winner, would be fun to go against Patterson and Pew together in R/T's again.....we'll do the 24+ Minutes of Sebring.

Calling, Revier, Cioti, Maytag, Amok, Sydude, Ludwig, Willcox, Yarab, Zimroth, Gil and the rest I can't think of at the moment. The CD alone would help cover at least a half season of regionals

I'm in if this can get momentum...and if my 500 ride don't pan out

I'm waiting to hear about Castroneves's seat at Penske, but I will keep this in mind if that falls through.

Sounds like a blast...If we could have our own race group, even better. Not sure of my schedule yet, but if I'm free, I'll do it if Redneck brings his coffee machine..

Why is Dick standing in the middle of a runway with a Mustang doing donuts around him?

uh, Doug, I think that was a philosophical question. You know eleven, he's an existentialist. And it remains a compelling question, even now.

Re: Alumni Reunion

If we can get a quarom of the old Master's national group together, I would definitely join the fun. . . even if it's a forgone conclusion that Wilcox would kick our collective butts, as usual.

Maybe if we allow Greg Borland to enter some formula Continentals with appropriate restrictor plates, we could get John Griest, Brian Sheppard, Jim Victor, and Kirk Kindsfather to make an appearance.

Someone needs to convince Dave Kaemmer that he'd be missing a great opportunity to promote iRacing if he doesn't make it to the weekend.

Also need to get Mike Marino out from behind his cameras, and back into the cockpit. After all, we need somebody to keep Mr. Wilcox honest.

Throw in a Saturday night poker tournament to bring back Rosland Isra.

Make Divina, who lives in Sebring, the honorary starter for the event.

Bring back the rat pack, to prove once again that success at racing is 50% skill, and 50% treachery (er, I meant racecraft).

Jimmy Locke would have to come just to escape February in New Hampshire.

Meanwhile, Dom and I can relive our Epic 2008 Master's Nationals duels by fighting tooth and nail over next-to-last place.

Get Todd to designate the Saturday afternoon memorial for the Master's group, so we get three races together over the weekend, rather than two. Heck, give us a memorial on Friday afternoon as well, if there are only 4 races groups for the weekend. (Tell Todd to bring LOTS of spare cars ).

The more I think about it, the more I like it!!

How about race 1 in the R/T 2000, Race 2 in the Miatas, and a Masters' memorial in the school cars? That would be an interesting variation on a standard skippy weekend.

Re: Alumni Reunion

how 'bout this:

One practice session. The grid in the next session is determined by the fastest time in the practice session. In the next sessions after that, the grid is determined by the finsihing position in the previous session. Basically every session after the first practice session is a race..
Winner of the last race is the champ..Full National rules..

I vote for the RT's with no wings..

what Peter said, "bring lots of cars"

Thems of us driving H pattern shift cars want you sequential guys to have the learning experience of shifting again - ask Harsha. You could do a day in the MX-5s, but there's another level going to school car straight cut without synchromesh. Real fun when done right.

You and Revere would have an advantage for sure.. when I used to ski race downhill as a kid I raced on 220cmm straight cut heavy boards but get much more pleasure from the new short parabolic skis. I like techonlogy ..but I'll go with the flow..Bring lots of gears.

How 'bout chariots? I get the extended axel with the blade on it.

OMG, I knew I shouldn't have turned off the traction control on this, but then control is always an illusion. With the exuberant (ok sometimes aberrant) response I'm confidant Todd can fabricate some scenario for this fun to happen. I want to be in turn one and seven for the first lap. Bilocation seems more easily solvable than having enough running cars after the first race... Can't wait to see this!

excellent list additions - of course you and Dom were automatically included. Divi should race!! We need Sid Brenner to enter so I will have someone to race with . Add to list Tommy Sands, Deyne Bent, Bill Hammer, Murray & Michelle, Jim Lowe....this would be an insane race!!

Re: Alumni Reunion

Hey, Divina and Wally know how to shift, so they can join the School Car contingent and resume their too long interrupted duel. Add others who shift and the full fleets or RTs and School Cars could run, probably approaching 40 cars. We ran School Cars with RTs at Sebring in Nov 2003. JP and BW should test the School Cars as in the good old days - and race them too!

John-John is wise and sneaky beyond his years, but his plan to cross the finish line in the pits is transparent - so the pits are closed for all under age 40

Ah and the famous quote from Peter Dannan or maybe it was the Rat Pack...
Old Age and Treachery will beat Youth and Skill....
But Old Age and Treachery will be bested by Youth, Skill and Treachery.
Actually, I think the quote by the Rat Pack was ... Youth and Skill will not beat Old Age, Treachery, and Skill.

Little John... do I need to break back out the list?

This another call for School Cars, thinly disguised.

Will SBR respond to this group of oldie but goodie racers who want to run the oldie but goodie School Cars against the RTs with JP and BW testing them? Will SBR respond in time for those who would come to run School Cars by tomorrow so the 10% discount would apply?

Think of the speed differential at the end of the straights Think of lots more racers

Alumnus
1 : a person who has attended or has graduated from a particular school, college, or university
2 : a person who is a former member, employee, contributor, or inmate

... inmate, ahhh, this will allow Bobo and Johnny to race

I vote no fenders and regional rules (tight budget! With this crowd, many rusty, will need CD blame assigning )

I'm down for school cars. This reunion will closely coincide with my graduation from 3 Day Racing at Sebring in Feb. 2001....running school cars just sounds right (and no damaged wings to pay for)

I sent out an email blast to many alumni - got this from rat packer Louis Dribell...

Doug,
What a cast of Stars…..and ESPN has the inside track, I suppose?
Everyone on your list and others inadvertently omitted must show their colors and attend!
As an original “Rat Packer” nothing would please me more than to have an opportunity to challenge Wilcox and his Nationals mates.
Unfortunately on those date we’re still in Cape Town SA but I’ve got inside info that the remainder of the Rat Pack may/will be in Sebring to defend.
Can you get Dorsey to announce and officiate?
Kindest regards ......Louis

I signed up yesterday - hope I can make it, a few things to iron out

And for agreeing to this, I get to test (and race) your DP car?
