To paraphrase Dr. Greist, racing is the cure for nearly everything. Although you must admit it is heartwarming to find an appreciation for the beauty of poetry in such an unexpected place.
p.s. what's a vicar? Is that like a K-car?

Re: New Forums on Skip Barber website
OK, so maybe the content of our "Poetry in Motion" thread idea (cars vs bowels ) might not fly over in SkippyForumLand. Though it certainly seemed to go over big over here.
How about this idea: "The Beneficial Health Effects of Racing"
See, if you are moving quickly in a race car, Einstein tells us that time will pass more slowly for you than it will for someone standing in the pits. Therefore you will age less than they will. And the faster and longer you go, the greater the effect. No wonder Vic Elford is so well preserved.
Seat time, seat time, seat time.
Now please excuse me while I go prepare for my morning departure for Elkhart Lake to seek the Relativistic Fountain of Youth. You may talk amongst yourselves.

Not to mention the excellent period background pic.
Would that you all transcend and someday achieve the serenity of the enlightened spirit.
Don't tell God I said that, ok?

If it is right, it looks right. Or the other way around. Mr. Gurney may have a strong argument to the contrary, but for cars of that era-or any era- there are none more gorgeous.
I rest my case.

I want a street car that starts up and sounds just like that. its the only way to start your day. you are doing something right if a crowd gathers to cheer on your warm up.

And I thought they held up the rear of the car. Go figure.

Re: New Forums on Skip Barber website
That Shell ad is one of the most evocative pieces of automotive film making I've ever seen. It is the definition of mis en scene, blending the racing history of a great automotive marque with equally great and historic locations around the planet. They keep it in the present with the comic relief of cab drivers and shop owners reacting to the cars passing and the hilarious notion of a gas station attendant keeping global lap times. It's affect is greater than the sum of its parts... Every time I see it. It probably helps to be old enough to remember the 312 when it was new.

Re: New Forums on Skip Barber website
The sound of that Ferrari v12 should be every exhaut tuners benchmark.
If they can't acheive the real thing, then they should equip every car with a VROOM MOTOR so every car sounds like this.
If you are old enough to know what a VROOM MOTOR was, I applaud you.
My vroom motor attached to my bike and sounded just like a v twin motorcyle. I deluded myself into thinking I really was that cool.

Glad you said ' automotive" filmmaking, Pat. I was about to refer you to
' Citizen Kane."
And it helps nothing to be this old. Trust me on that.
I won't forget watching my son stand next to the BT 24 that I'd seen Sir Jack race at the Glen. You want old? THAT'S old!
