Question Places to stay close to Lime Rock

I'm planning to attend the banquet, never been to Lime Rock before - can anyone provide some suggestions for accommodation?

Re: Places to stay close to Lime Rock

Paul--

Greg Strelzoff and I are staying here:

http://www.locust-tree-bed-and-breakfast.com/

In Canaan 12-15 min away from the track and Lakeville, quiet, clean, simple, reasonable price, nice real-people hosts, and breakfast. The owners re-did the house themselves 3 years ago. Not fancy or gourmet, but IMO a good place to stay (I always prefer a B&B to a hotel) and cheaper than the Interlaken. Tell Heidi I sent you.

Re: Places to stay close to Lime Rock

There are a bunch of little B&Bs near the track, including two across the street and one next to the infield entrance (turn left as you leave LRP).

There are at least two construction zones between the track and Canaan on Rt. 7 North, so 12-15min to get to the B&B Harsha's talking about is very optimistic right now. On a good day, it takes about 15min to get from the track to the center of Canaan, and then that B&B is East on Rt. 44.

But it is a bit closer to the airport in Hartford! Thanks for the heads up on the construction, as I recall they were working on the bridge near the track in June. Rob showed me a back way where you get off 7 a few miles south of Canaan and come out right opposite the track. Didn't realize there were some B&Bs right next to the track-- will try to check them out this time. Closer is better. Although I seem to have gotten attached to Heidi and John in Canaan.

Re: Places to stay close to Lime Rock

Yes, that same bridge construction is still going on. They did switch which side they're working on, though.

And you're right, there is a route you can take that winds down through the woods, over the Great Falls, and back up above the construction on Rt. 7. If you're leaving the track, take a left on Dugway Road at the church, follow it to the bottom, turn right to go over the bridge at the Falls, go UNDER the overpass, and you end up on Rt. 7 again eventually.

As for the B&Bs closest to the track, I believe these are them:

Inn at White Hollow Farm
The Pines B&B (87 Farnum Road -- between Wells Hill and Salmon Kill, right next to the Mobil station in Lakeville)
Davidson B&B (9 Canterbury Lane, Lakeville)
Surrey B&B (422 Lime Rock Road -- ACROSS FROM TRACK on Rt. 112)
Earl Grey B&B (9 The Lock Up, Salisbury)
Barbara Ardizone's B&B (62 Main Street, Salisbury)
Grassy Meadows B&B (107 Point of Rock Road, Falls Village)
Horse Tale Farm B&B (61 South Canaan Road, Canaan/Falls Village)

And here are additional listings:

Mountainside Cabins
Falls Village, CT

Wainwright Inn
Great Barrington, MA

Re: Places to stay close to Lime Rock

You're quite welcome. One thing I'm pretty adept at is booking travel online. For this lodging search, though, it's more a matter of my living here and knowing where to look for the listings.

No one has yet pointed out that the catalyst for the extraordinary display of lodging expertise was an engineer, and you have given him way too much data to analyze before October 10. Paul, keep things simple. There is a Motel 6 somewhere about two hours away. They will keep the lights on for you.

What is that you say Ted??? I am busy analyzing all of this data - it may be a few days before I can make a meaningful engineering decision on location. So far, I have been consumed with creating a fish bone analysis to assist with my decision matrix.

Seriously, thank you all for the great information, especially you CC - outstanding job .

Re: Places to stay close to Lime Rock

Again, you're welcome. It really was a matter of knowing where to look for the info. The list wouldn't have been nearly as comprehensive had I not thought to look where I did. It was more a metanalysis than pure research.

Sadly our guest room is already spoken for... But Ali's more than comprehensive list will live on for years to come. No excuses if you can't find an LRP hotel or B&B now.

Looks like Ali's impressive and diligent research has finally let the long-suffering proprietor of Casa Daly officially off the hook for good. "Yes, yes. Mmm Hmm, yup. Of course. Um... I just thought of something...I'm sending you a link that should really help you out..."

Pat, I heard that sigh of relief way down here in Ky.

Re: Places to stay close to Lime Rock

Nice try Harsha... I sent Paul an E-mail directly saying our guest room was spoken for (which it is) and suggesting a few places I thought might work for him before you and Ali posted your suggestions here and Julia publicly offered our guest room. I did suggest to Julia that she check with me in the future before offering our room since it leaves me in the awkward position of having to decline that you've kindly drawn attention to...

I know Julia didn't intend to do that and my response was meant to close the offering she made publicly, as Paul already knows and has made other plans. I think we've beat this one into the ground enough... eh?

Gotcha!

Only kidding Doug. However you will have to share the bed if you show up next weekend.

PM Cheekychica (Ali). She should be able to help you. Or contact Rob Slonaker, who lives just east of Canaan.

Re: Places to stay close to Lime Rock

Well, since I live in the area, I've never stayed at any of these places.

I can tell you that the most frequently stayed-at places are the Interlaken Inn, White Hart Inn, and Wake Robin Inn.

NOTE: The White Hart just got completely renovated. It's down to 15 larger rooms/suites, rather than the 26 smaller rooms it had before.

Re: Places to stay close to Lime Rock

If you are planning to attend the June Summer Series race weekend at LRP and haven't booked a room yet, you need to book/find one ASAP. It's the same weekend as the Hotchkiss Reunion Weekend, which means people from the classes of 2005, 2000, 1995, 1990, ..., 1955 (or later) will be in town. The members of the older classes won't want to stay in the dorms on campus, so the local hotel rooms will most likely be going fast if they're not gone already.

Which means all the nice places to eat (e.g., Boathouse, White Hart Inn) will be filled too.

Well, not necessarily. Anyone attending is free to eat wherever they want, obviously, and they may choose to do so during the afternoon hours. However, really nice dinners are provided every night of the Reunion, and since people are there to spend time with their classes, they go to those. Friday night is usually the lobster dinner/BBQ and Saturday night each class has its own dinner somewhere on campus. Oh, and the classes attending? 1935-2005.
