Videos Michael Johnson Tribute - Final Version online

I put this together as a tribute to a very nice guy. Although not everyone is in the video, it's from all of us Michael...................

Re: Michael Johnson Tribute - Link Fixed

When my brother died I was told people can die twice. The first time is when they physically die. The second is when other people stop talking about them.

This video should help ward off the latter. I didn't know Michael, but from listening to people talk about him, I wish I did.

Very moving, Doug. I did not know Michael as well, but from what I heard from everyone, it was an honor to be in his race.

That is a VERY cool video! It's a wonderful thought to know that we were all there to take part in the racing this weekend. I wish I could have stayed for Sunday too.. Michael you will always be in our thoughts!

Randy

P.S. I sure hope that someone can get a copy of this to Michael's family!

Doug, Your elegant work invokes the powerful sense of loss at Michael's passing.

The celebration of his life on Sunday was in an open tent near the outfield chalet looking down over Lime Rock. As Sid began his remarks a lone cyclist appeared in a yellow jacket and pedaled around the track for most of an hour. Though coincidental, the cinematic visual poetry of Michael's spirit, still inhabiting the track, could not have been better scripted.

I'd be happy to send them some DVDs, can someone please email me the address?

I can't say I was very close to Michael, but that is exactly why my memory of him is so strong. When I was just starting to race with SB there was a bit of an insider's club feeling to the place, no mentor system, a bit intimidating.

Well, I must have looked like a lost soul at one of my first race weekends at LRP and Michael just walked up to me, introduced himself and started talking. He asked about me, my experience, did I have any questions, etc. He introduced me to some other drivers and staff and, in short, made me feel at home and part of the 'family'.

Whenever we would bump into each other at subsequent races, he was there with a "Hi Doug, how's it going, do you need anything, any questions", etc. Such a nice person.

From all I've heard from others, that was just who he was.

When I lost my father, who departed this world way before his time, a quote from his best friend that has always stayed with me was;

"Heaven must be awfully short of fine men to have taken your Dad like this"

It appears the shortage still exists......

That was a very moving video. I am constantly impressed by the sense of community and camradery among everyong involved with SBR and everyone here at TJR. I feel lucky to be a part of this comunity and only wish that I had a chance to meet Michael J.

CDH, excellent job on a fitting tribute to one of our own.

I HAVE NOTICED OVER THE YEAR'S THAT WHENEVER SOMBODY PASS'S THAT THEY IMMEDIATELY BECOME A SAINT.

I AM ALSO SURE WHEN I LEAVE THIS PLANET. THAT TRADITION WILL END

THAT BEING SAID. I KNEW MIKE 15 YEARS AND ALL THAT IS SAID ABOUT HIM IS PROBABLY NOT ENOUGH.

HIS WAS ONE OF A KIND.AND I WILL MISS HIM BUT NOT FORGET HIM

Sid, I heard you were excellent at the Memorial Service at LRP Sunday. Can you share some of the highlights of what you said?

Doug - really nice, subtle job...I shuddered watching the ghost car joining the formation, very moving.
