Who's racing at NOLA?

I just signed up for my first Skip Barber race weekend at NOLA, March 6-8.

Who else is going to be there?

Re: Who's racing at NOLA?

Gus and I plan to be there for the March NOLA session.

I enjoyed the track in last year's summer session. Facilities are nice (cover pits!!!) and the track is fun with not too much to hit. The summer season race occurred when the temps were in the 90's so this should be a good change of pace.

One additional plus is that this is (IMO) not a difficult to learn initially.

See you there

Re: Who's racing at NOLA?

Cool, Bill...

...and it looks like you and gus and I are in the same run group, too!

I'm really looking forward to having a track with very little to hit.

My club track is the complete opposite; walls everywhere and right next to the asphalt in a lot of places.

If you haven't seen it, check this out:

Not exactly the friendliest circuit for really exploring the limits of adhesion.

Alan,
Nice Video. you are right - lots of concrete targets on that track. Probably would not be good for my "target fixation" problem!!

Look forward to seeing you there. Gus, Jeff and I only have a 3 day pass from the "rest home" so we will definitely be looking for some fun. Travel safe.

Bill

Thanks Pat... I think the Bayou Alligators kept me moving at a good pace.

Re: Who's racing at NOLA?

I was curious. They are offering a 2 day advanced course at Nola at a reasonable price. Its one of the cheaper ones.
Would this be a good learning track to do a 2 day advanced course? I've already done a 2 day at the
Sebring full course (and I loved it). Thanks

Re: Who's racing at NOLA?

Great question and I think it is a great track to learn.

Here is why I think that is true. First, it is a medium length track which means that you get more lapping repetitions which is perfect for taking "small bites at the apple" as you work on pushing your skills. Second, they track is incredibly safe ( there just is not much to hit) which makes it, in my opinion, a great place to develop driving the high speed turns with a slip angle. Learning to do this on a more constricting track can be a little more difficult. Third, there are great places to learn and practice trail brake rotation because there are several 2nd and 3rd gear turns with extra asphalt.

Combine this with a beautiful facility and it makes a great package.

If you choose to go, let me know how you make out. Bill

Ps. There are some good you tube videos out on the net if you query skip barber NOLA

First of all Bill, I just read that you were the winner at Nola. Congratulations!
I actually visited and watched both races in Homestead this past January. There was a very fast
young kid who won all the races. Hopefully I'll participate next year.

It seems like you read my mind Bill. Those are exactly the things that I would like to work on.

Every book on racing that I've read stresses to perfect the high speed corners because
those are usually the corners that people are most scared to work on initially. NOLA would be
perfect without many walls or barriers to hit.

Trail brake rotation is precisely what I am looking to get better at. I've been debating whether to sign up for another 2 day advanced or one of the upcoming car control clinics.

Thanks again
