IT'S OFFICIAL!! WATKINS GLEN INVITATIONAL!
Todd and Skippy & Co have just arranged something so diabolically great that you should
get on the phone, call your CSR and book this weekend ASAP. That means now. Running ‘National’ rules (yes!), this stand-alone race weekend will be
THE Official Support Race Series at the Watkins Glen Grand Am weekend, where the Rolex Sports Car Series Prototypes (DP) and the GT cars will be running in the Six Hour race, and where the Grand-Am Cup ST/GS cars will be running the Trust 200. So we will be running in front of
Big Name Teams and Big Crowds, and we will be running up to 35 cars in the one group. Did ya hear that? 35 cars in one race, running National rules! That means no mandatory stops for 4-off's or for car contact. And that means no penalties if you spin in Qualifying.
There will be multiple classes within the race
*, so entrants of varying experience can shoot for prestigious podiums, trophies and bragging rights. As this is a NY State event, you have to be at least 18 years old to enter, so unfortunately (right…) that will eliminate a bunch of the Nationals kids. You also need to have at least one race weekend with Skippy in the bag
*. Skip Barber will also try and get a write-up on the event in Racer Mag, so if you do well you might just get yourself some quality press.
Skip Barber will have a VIP hospitality tent (just like the big teams!) for the drivers and their guests, so you can feel and act just like the big shot you always thought you were ;-). Skippy is also planning a big Dinner party at some point in the weekend
*, so that should be fun too. Each entrant will be provided with a bunch of multi-day passes
* for you and your guests to attend the weekend’s events, so you’ll all be able to enjoy the Rolex Six Hour race, the Grand-Am Cup race, and of course
the highlight event, the Skip Barber Watkins Glen Invitational. And finally, the travel department was also able to get about 20 rooms in Corning, so you can’t make any excuses about not finding a place to stay.
