First Daytona Ride
Hi all,
I am very excited to announce that I am doing to attempt my first Daytona race in a Conti car.
My co driver will be Mike Miller and we will be driving in the black/green 83 Cayman S BGB car.
You can find some pix here:
http://bgb-motorsports.smugmug.com/G...60912965_uLHeq
I have no experience in this car or this track, so I have been studying video and many have assured me I will quickly learn the track.
This is an exciting step for me and I thank all of you here for helping me along the way.
I am only going to do a few races this year in Conti and I will be trying a few other teams out along the way.
I also will be doing the summer series as well as 4 nat races this year (The races where regional and nat races line up.)
Greg

Re: First Daytona Ride
Thumbs up Greg. That'll be a great car to get your feet wet in Conti and sounds like you've got great support. Sorry to hear you'll be running the regional series again. You'll love running the national races. Much higher quality of life. Dedicated car that you can adjust ride height and sway bar settings on. You'll love the whole experience... except for all the really fast kids.

As you know, I am very jealous. You are going to have a blast and learn a ton, probably as much again as you have already learned. If I can't make it down there, you better believe I will be "watching" on live timing. Rock and roll, bro.

Re: First Daytona Ride
Greg,
Trust your training and your judgement and you'll do great!!
Keep your level headed perspective and don't overthink it...
Get ready to adjust the budget decimal point a notch or so...
Relax and enjoy the ride.

Re: First Daytona Ride
Way to go Skippy guys ! Al Carter 5th, Greg 15th, Shelbilly 18th. Shelby even led 2 laps !!!!
Todd Synder and Scott Panzer only completed 32 laps, but had a decent fast lap.

Re: First Daytona Ride
wow
what a day
im so tired.
ill be working on editing the video clips soon, but i just have to say it was an epic experience.
i figured out a ton of stuff during the race and got quicker and quicker
the bmw's were sick fast and they will be slowed down for sure.
they pulled the top 10 cars and dynoed them all.
78 cars took the start
lots of full course yellows
its neat they have a flashing yellow inside the cockpit -
they had a fan walk and i was signing autographs .. it actually felt odd.
my skippy training served me well - i avoided a lot of incidents and never got touched
i thank all of the skippy coaches and drives who have helped me along the way.

Re: First Daytona Ride
Bravo Greg and all the brethren. Sorry to hear Todd and Scott had a short day. John Edwards was also down the charts with a broken CV axle.
Kudos to Al, Greg, and Shelbilly. Well done.

Re: First Daytona Ride
Congrats all, look forward to watching it, the live T&S showed it to be a great battle
Carter qualified his car P2 but tech found camber on one corner off by a tenth so he started at the back of GS! Got to P5, wow!

Re: First Daytona Ride
Way to go Greg and all Skippy pilots!! Greg, of course I am very jealous and can only dream of the oportunity you have been able to seize. Best of luck...didn't anyone tell you that you should adopt a "brother" (me)to drive with you for moral and spiritual support as you progress through this transition to professional racing?

Re: First Daytona Ride
Nice job Greg! I wish I would have known earlier you were in the race I would have cheered you on. Watching the front end it was clear that the tracked suited the V8 BMW well... the cars were fast
Nick Longhi and Matt Plumb are great/talented guys, big congrats to them for the win!
Hope to see around either SBR or Grand-am now!
