Endurance Karting’s Team USA Nets Podium Finish in Portugal
EVORA, Portugal (July 18, 2005)—For the third time in as many years, Team USA, fielded by Johan Schwartz’s Endurance Karting, took home a trophy in the 24 Hours de Evora, held July 9-10 at the Kartodromo de Evora in Portugal.
It was Team USA’s fourth start in the grueling 24-hour endurance karting event at the historic .6 mile (908 meters), 13-turn track located near the Spanish border. Team USA made a strong showing in a field dotted with former Formula 1 drivers, including Stefano Modena and Pedro Lamy.
Team USA consisted of three teams: Team Eagle, Team Red, White and Blue and Team Spirit. Team Eagle’s excellent strategy resulted in a third-place finish in the GT30 class and a seventh-place finish overall. Team Eagle’s six drivers included Kevin Bateman, Kevin Bligan, Mike Circo, Yury Lyalko, Jim Machul and Jack Beaulieu.
Team Red, White and Blue ran in the top 10 overall before encountering mechanical trouble. Despite the problems, the team finished 15th overall and ninth in the GT1 class. Seven drivers piloted the team’s kart, including Adam Dodds, Jeff Hasenmayer, Dan Krauss, Jamie Rosenblatt, Chris Sherwood, Russell Strate Jr. and Brent Tuchler.
Team Spirit made few mistakes and brought home a 19th-place overall finish and a 10th-place finish in the GT30 class. The seven person Team Spirit consisted of Richard Blanchard, Andrika Brown, Michael Brown, Ed Oberholtzer, Ray Moran and Joe Smith.
Team USA will return to Portugal in July 2006. Drivers interested in joining Team USA may visit www.EnduranceKarting.com or call toll-free 1-866-RACE-NOW (1-866-722-3669) for more information. Johan Schwartz is the contact person for the European trip. Drivers of all experience levels are welcome to join Team USA and have the experience of a lifetime in Portugal.
Now in its fifth year, Endurance Karting brings the same endurance hire-kart racing made popular in Europe to the United States. Endurance Karting is the United States’ leader in Arrive and Drive endurance karting races and offers racing schools at several different tracks throughout the U.S. Drivers with no experience or years of experience can compete in sports car-style racings for a fraction of the cost. For more information on Endurance Karting, visit www.EnduranceKarting.com or call toll-free 1-866-RACE-NOW (1-866-722-3669).
