It may be impossible to put the egg back into the shell...
The guys we are not hearing from are the 5th-15th overall that would be winning races in the old system. Currently those guys don't have a chance at a podium but the 15th-20th guys are "winning" Sportsman races.
Not an easy issue to solve nor implement and certainly no way to make everyone happy but w/ equal cars the fastest guys should be "winning"!
My 2 cents...thanks for reading.

Yes what he said...as usually Jim i think you hit on the the key points.
BTW the old system did allow for first season wins. I won in my third race and yes it was at the end of the season in an easier group but I had chances in other races too. And JP won in his rookie year, that same year, of course he went on to rookie of the year while I ended up being asked to take a CC clinic

I'm not sure what it was like pre-2004 but it wasn't that difficult to finish well back in the day with the old system.
As I said I plan on winning in champ but if I'm in the back or mid pack after 6-8 races it will be hard to get motivated each event. I love racing and I'm also very competitive, the notion of a P-6 or 7 being a good weekend won't work for me too long, even if the competition is the best.
It's not about trophy's, podiums, recognition, I had the option of staying in sportsman, in fact when I moved to champ my points went to sportsman heaven. It's about the desire to win and motivation to improve. We all can't be Revere, or Craig D, or one of many hot shoes karters that come (yes I do love the young guns) although that would be nice, arriving at a weekend knowing I have to be one of the top 3-4 drivers of 60-80 to have a chance to win is daunting, at least for me.
I guess the problem is the current system works for the very best and the sportsman, but for those in the top 5-15 there is a void, the old system seems to be the best compromise to me.
OK, as promised my last post on list if no response on this dead horse
