Re: OK It's Spring - How About F1 Outdoors?

My son Matthew turns 21 on Monday!

His present from me is an hour in a kart. We now have, 5 checks, 2 paypals, me and the kid for a total of 9. Maybe this will happen!

Sy's in! We need 7 more. I wonder how Sid would handle this.

Hmmmm, in another thread Sid was admonishing Al to be careful about messing with the best. Maybe the thing to do here is find out who can do the best job of finding the other seven. Or does Sid put pressure on only for the mechanics fund? If Al can drum up seven other guys, then he will have shown his stuff.

It's a good thought but Al's out west and Sid lives in his own universe (New Jersey) so I think we're still on our own.

Re: OK It's Spring - How About F1 Outdoors?

Here are my thoughts. I have raced many times at F1 outdoors. the karts are 9 hp. far too LITTLE power for the size of the track. It’s almost flat the whole way around, unless it rains. May I suggest renting the indoor track? It is much more challenging than the outdoor track. I would probably go either way but rest assured it’s a lack luster event. I read a tread that mentioned 15 hp kart. if that’s the case it would be much more competitive.

They're 9HP, not 15. I'll pull the plug tomorrow.

would you all consider doing a dual indoor track event instead of outside?

Re: OK It's Spring - How About F1 Outdoors?

Sure, really had fun at the last dual indoor event we did... why not? If the outdoor track is a snooze with the 9hp karts lets play inside. Won't have to worry about bad weather either.

That sounds good to me too. Oldman, can you organize an indoor run for June 10?

The cost of an indoor hour is $200 to $300 per. It's also at 9:00am or so. I'll be at the Glen if you want to talk.

Re: OK It's Spring - How About F1 Outdoors?

I called Bob's contact at F1 Boston early this morning, and we discussed a couple of options, for which she is getting back to me.

1. Run Outdoors, but with 15+hp karts ($?)
2. Run Indoors Single Track (moderate price, similar to current)
3. Run Indoors Double Track (more expensive, $200-$300/hr.)

I'll let you know when she gets back to me. In the meantime, please give me your preferences.

Re: OK It's Spring - How About F1 Outdoors?

1.) 15hp outside (assuming the price is fair)
2.) Dual track indoors
3.) Single track indoors

Re: OK It's Spring - How About F1 Outdoors?

i would prefer to run anything so i don't care. just dont want to pay 300 again. b/c we end up running races afterwards as well. i can handle the 100 plus races after but not 300 plus races after. also, i'll probably be bringing my shifter kart up there, so it wont matter where we run b/c i'll hopefully be running my shifter outdoors afterwards anyways.

i echo Pat's preferences...

1.) 15hp outside (assuming the price is fair)
2.) Dual track indoors
3.) Single track indoors

Re: OK It's Spring - How About F1 Outdoors?

Here's the situation:

1. F1 Outdoors doesn't have any karts available with more than 9hp. The price is $1,700 per hour, so with 17 karts on track it's $100 per head per hour.

2. F1 Indoors Dual Track is $3,400 per hour, and they will allow up to 17 or so karts. F1 Indoors doesn't have dual track availability until 5pm, so that's out for June 10th. With 17 people, that's $200 per hour.

3. F1 Indoors has single track availability (city course) anytime in the morning, and it's $1,700 per hour, available in 1/2 hour increments. Max karts on track is 12. With 12 people, that's approx $142 per hour.

I hate doing this, but I'm again asking you guys which ones you want to do.. If you've committed to the 10th already, I need to hear from you.

I say bag it if possible, I was interested in the outdoor track, but not in underpowered karts.

FYI:

I refunded all 3 PayPal monies last week. The 5 checks I received were marked "VOID" and returned via the US mail this morning.

Re: OK It's Spring - How About F1 Outdoors?

damn, i had plans to go up to boston. i'm still down if anyone else wants to go. we will just race with other people. i'd rather do the 9hp karts indoors than outdoors and i'd prefer to do it that weekend.

Re: OK It's Spring - How About F1 Outdoors?

I'm dissappointed F1 charges those rates. If the track is too fast for the kart, or the kart too slow for the track, yes, it will dissappoint you. If its a great track/kart combination, $2/minute or less is a good deal. If its closer to $1/minute, the track is probably losing money.

They should be trying harder to make you guys happy, but then again, if they have plenty of demand, I guess they can ask whatever they want.

I hope you guys work something out so the rest of us can have fun reading your reports.

My inclination is to bag the outdoor track and perhaps find another date later in the summer when we can get the dual indoor tracks. Sy, is OVRP worth looking into as a possibility?

I'm not sure. I'll check on it and get back to you guys. It could be interesting if they rent high powered karts.

Re: OK It's Spring - How About F1 Outdoors?

sy, i thought i'd help you out and call ovrp myself. i just got off the phone with mike doty. he has 12 hp karts that get up to about 55mph or so. for an hour, it would cost $75 per person for a 1 hour rental. he has 16 karts but prefers to only run 13 karts at a time b/c of safety. he wont let us run on saturday's but we can run on friday's til 11pm and sunday's after 3pm till 11pm. we need a minimum of 8 people to get this going. if you have any other questions, i can call him up again if you don't want to.

I think going to OVRP is a great idea, but I doubt those time slots will work for a large group. Going with three or four guys and renting Rotaxes during public sessions or races would work easily and be a blast.

Back to the F1 Boston event, I think the best thing is to just SHOW UP AND RACE. No money up front, we race with whoever's there. This thread has become a complete ClusterF*ck, and it's probably being totally ignored at this point, so I'm closing it. I'll either make a new one, or just send an email out to everyone who was interested. If you're interested and you don't see a new thread, send me an email or a PM and I'll give you the details.
