Head Count for Karting Event on November 25th, 2006 at Wallingford [Threads Merged]
I called up On Track Karting yesterday to get some information on a TJR karting event similar to the Turkey Day Shootout that I attended last year at F1Boston. The website is http://www.ontrackkarting.com for those who wish to visit the site. My contact there still has to get back to me but she gave me some unofficial pricing. If we rent out the track for 1 hour it will cost $1200 and for each additional half hour after that it will be $500. I consider this very good pricing. Also, we would have to do this at 10am to 11am b/c they open at 11am and they are willing to open up the facility an hour early so we can have the track.(Hard to believe that I'm actually upset with a facility that prefers not to shut down during normal operating hours to the public. Those of you who go to F1Boston will understand this the most.) The maximum number of karts that can be on track is 15. Now, I have no idea how many people would be interested in attending this event that's why I wanted to post here to gauge interest. This would be on a Saturday in the next 2 or 3 weeks. I know it is really short notice, but I can never seem to think long term. So, last year's shootout was on the saturday immediately following Thanksgiving Day. I think I remember that some people were unable to attend b/c of the proximity to the holiday. So, please post if you think you would like to come on Nov. 18th, 25th or dec 2nd. For myself with no marriage or kids, I have no problem attending the 18th after Thanksgiving so this would be more at everyone else's convenience since I'm always free to race.

Re: Karting Event
I'd be up for it but will have to check further for family scheduling conflicts.

Re: Karting Event
I'm in plus two for the 25th only.
-Sy A.
-Yury L.
-Nat M.
Also, FYI, the Road Atlanta race weekend runs through the 18th, so that may be a tough day for some as well.
And Ari, thank you very much for setting this up. You DA MAN!

Re: Karting Event
No problem Sy! Pat, if you do make it out please bring along your daughter,(I'm guessing here but ...) Julia. I remember her to be a huge help last year. Maybe this year she'll race.
I think I can take the 18th off the table because I think it's a bit too late to make plans for that saturday and because of the RA race that weekend. But like I said, I'm good for any of the dates.

Head Count for Karting Event on November 25th, 2006 at Wallingford [Threads Merged]
Hey Guys:
I'll be at OnTrackKarting in Wallingford Tuesday night. Anyone care to join me? It's 10 minute Tuesdays, all sessions are 10 minutes long. A typical lap time is 39 to 40 seconds. Ted, how about you?

Re: Karting in Wallingford, CT
I believe the plan is to go up on Saturday the 25th as a group with this thread suggesting pre-emptive practice visits on this and/or next Tuesday (the 14th and 21st of November).

I made an incorrect assumption that Bob was aware of the other karting thread looking at gathering in Walingford after Thanksgiving. Perhaps we should combine the threads.

Head Count for Karting Event
I need to know how many people are interested in karting at On Track Karting in Wallingford, Ct on November 25th. We plan to rent the track for an hour starting at 10am. It should be $1200 for the hour and we can have a max of 15 drivers on the track at one time. With 15 drivers, it will cost $80 per driver for the hour. Please let me know if you can come. Thanks!!

Re: Head Count for Karting Event
ok, so you are paying $10 more to race with strangers. whereas, you could meet up with friends and save $10. think about it, that's about another 30 seconds of track time in skip barber based off an hour of lapping at $1100.
if we don't have enough people to make it worth it, then maybe we can just meet there on saturday anyway, and just use that $15 per person per race(8 min race not 10 min.) if we can get 10 or more people together.

Re: Head Count for Karting Event
Last Tuesday night I did 40 minutes (4 sessions) for $60! I think that works out to $90 per hour for actual seat time.
I met some terrific guys and nobody considered me a cheap bastard. Tomorrow night I plan on doing it again.

Re: Head Count for Karting Event
Bob, I don't consider you to be cheap, just watchful over the value you get for your money. I was only trying to get you to come saturday instead of going on tuesday so that we were one person closer to making the event happen.
As it is, I may join you guys tomorrow at On Track Karting. I am supposed to pick up my new car tomorrow in stamford and i may just stick around up there. What time were you thinking of going there tomorrow?

Bob, I'm not going to make it there tonight. I feel like crap and I don't feel like driving that far. I wouldn't mind karting even though I'm sick, just don't want to do the traveling back home after karting for that long(apprx. 2 hours home from Wallingford).

Re: Head Count for Karting Event
i just put a deposit down for the event. i see we're at 8 with macdod not being included but still a possible. michael auriemma is a possible as well. i asked some other people as well so we should have no problem making it cost efficient and fun. also, if you still want racing after the hour is up, they will charge $15 per person per race.

Re: Head Count for Karting Event
I may be incorrect, but I don't believe they race at OTK. What they allow you to do is go around. When you're done you get a sheet ranking you on best time. Figure 37 to 39 second laps. They may allow clockwise.

I went last night, there was a pretty good crowd.

huh?? please explain. when i talked to barbara, the woman who runs and co owns with her family, i told her that we were interested in running several races in the hour but just changing the starting order of each race and she understood what i meant. i'm going to call up right now to double check though.
bob, what you are talking about is instead of racing they just do something like a qualifying session, right?
edit: i just called and bob you were right, but they will let us race. how strange to do it by best lap time? what is this a rally?

I forgot to mention, no fire suits at this place (much more comfortable)!! Just bring your helmet and shoes if you want.
If you get 10 count me in. Do you want me to look for bodies? Can I bring a Cobra buddy or two? Are we doing lunch?

Re: Head Count for Karting Event
bob, with david casey and ted we are at 10 and that doesn't include donald, doug, or michael auriemma or even you, so i guess i should count you in then and that makes 11. so we are looking very good. at this point, i have to ask this question: if they only allow a max of 15 people on track at one time, should we let more than 15 people come for the hour that we rent? this will obviously mean that some people will not run in every race in that hour. i'm sure that we can figure something out, I just feel bad that some of us will be on the sidelines for some of the racing.
this is assuming that all the probables turn to yes and a few others that haven't said anything yet are also interested.

Re: Head Count for Karting Event
ok, i am going to put a cap on the list. we have a few maybe's but they seem to be just working some issues out.
these are the definite's on the list:
myself
sy +2 guests
pat
ted
nicks +1 guest
martin
david casey
david gionfriddo
these are the maybe's:
donald
doug
bob manzella
paul bordieri
that makes 15 with all the maybe's being converted to definites. i'm pretty sure that some of us will still race a few times after the hour is up, so if people still want to come we should still be there. as for the cap, i'm sorry to those who are interested but not listed, but i don't think it's fair, at least i can't come up with a fair way to split the hour so we can have more than 15 people come. let me know if anyone has any ideas. thanks. i'll be in touch to the firm up the list.
we should plan on gettiing there by 9:30am as they are opening up an hour early for us and i'd like to be on track at 10am so i don't have to argue with them to let us go past the 11am end time. as for the race setup, i just assume it will be the same as last year's shootout where we just ran back to back races while just switching the order of the starting positions. again, let me know if you guys have any other ideas.

Re: Head Count for Karting Event
Count me in. If it's too crowded I will just hang around and watch. Keep in mind this place is a little below the level of Racing America. It is a whole lot closer however.
When you buy a membership sessions (8 minutes, 10 minutes on Tuesdays) are only $15 when you buy in bulk. It might work out better if we all just bought the sessions. I would not want to be in a car for an hour straight.

Does anyone know the new track record for that place. The last I knew it was a 36.8 set by me back in september and I haven't been back since. And when you guys finally settle on a date i'd love to join with, along with some skippy mech's.

Finkle:
It's in the low 36s. It belongs to some guy with a 6 month membership that allows unlimited sessions. Everytime I've been there he's there. You would think it would get old.
My personal record is 38 seconds flat. Both OLDWOMAN and I are hoping that I can eventually get past 1 minute!

Re: Head Count for Karting Event
What are maybes?
Maybe I come if I like the crowd?
Maybe I come if I wake up in time?
Maybe I come if I get permission at home?
Maybe I come if my piggybank has been fed well enough?
I think it is great that Ari takes on organizing the 06 shootout and trust me I know putting stuff like this together always sucks. Karting is typically a 'the more the merrier' activity. And I personally would love to see the maybes there since I have not seen them in too long a time. But it would be unfortunatel if the maybes converted to no-shows and others that would have been definites were left out. So dear maybes please either s&*t of get off the pot.

Re: Head Count for Karting Event
Martin,
To quote Rene Decarte, an 17th Century Philosopher and namesake of modern day karting,
“Cogita Ergo Sum.”
That is “I think, therefore I am.”
But I am definitely not a maybe.
See you there.
