F1 Boston Turkey Day Shootout 2005

Team Juicy Racing is having it's Third Annual Turkey Day Shootout at F1 Boston on Saturday November 26th.

This is a family event and all drivers are welcome. We will be driving both circuits (City and Country) as we did last year.

We curently have 8 confirmed drivers with space for 8 to 10 more participants.

Please respond ASAP to reserve a space.

Last year's event had it's share of comedy and "car"nage and this year is excepted to be no different. For those thrilll seakers among you we even had some broken bones to show for our efforts.

BTW last year's post race banquet was graciously "hosted' by Skip Barber Racing - so those of your looking for a free lunch have no excuse not to attend.

I thought I heard you say "Never Again!" Or did that utterance come before the free lunch?

Re: F1 Boston Turkey Day Shootout 2005

Thanks for organizing this Donald,

Sign me up with 1,000 votes for Saturday the 26th.

For those of us with kids in school on Monday morning, Sunday would be a brutal travel day ending in the holiday traffic of a long Thanksgiving weekend.

Oy-Vey! We love Saturday!

Pat

Based on Pat Daly's Iraq Constitution-like voting techniques the event will be taking place on Saturday the 26th.

Re: F1 Boston Turkey Day Shootout 2005

Who do you rent the karts from? What are they? Shifter or what?
How many drivers to a kart? Are women allowed?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Susan

Michael are you coming to Daytona?

Re: F1 Boston Turkey Day Shootout 2005

Dear Susan,

This particular go kart track actually has their own go karts. Couldn't resist
They are "whats," not shifter karts 6.5 hp
The facility recommends one driver to a kart. Visibility tends to be limited if there is a second driver sitting in your lap. Seriously, you get your own kart
Of course women are allowed, somebody has to serve lunch. My daughter would tell me to apoligize for saying that - so I'm sorry. Really.

Cordially, More like "insincerely yours"
Donald
Hope you can attend. Please call me if you have any questions.

Susan

As I plan to stand near Donald at F1 Boston, his next appearance in public without a hood and robe, I realize that my life expectancy may be rather short. Therefore, I am not planning anything beyond Thanksgiving.

Re: F1 Boston Turkey Day Shootout 2005

Check out their web site Bob

http://www.f1boston.com

They have two indoor tracks and when both are connected there appears to be a brief outdoor pass through that must be negotiated each way.

They have all the gear needed though I suspect you can use your own if its up to spec.

I believe with a full compliment of drivers the price should be in the neighborhood of $225 per person. Fewer drivers = higher price.

Re: F1 Boston Turkey Day Shootout 2005

Don't forget to bring a few extra bucks if you are one of the die hards that will buy more rides (with the general public) after our dedicated track time expires.

As Duo suggests... check out their website. And, yes, you can use all of their gear. Many of us will bring our own, however.

An oldie, but a goodie... this link details an early (the first!) Turkey Day Shootout:

http://www.teamjuicyracing.com/stories/donaldm2.html

This one shows in kart footage from Sy's headcam:

http://www.teamjuicyracing.com/vids/karting112803.mov

If you miss this event, you will be sorry!

Re: F1 Boston Turkey Day Shootout 2005

OK... ONE MORE ENTICEMENT... THIS FROM A MARCH THREAD AFTER THE LAST EVENT!
************************************************** *******************
If you weren't there on Saturday, you missed a good time!

15 of us decended on F1 Boston at 10am. The hijinx and ball-busting started during the briefing which lasted about twice as long as it might have with a more timid group!

We rented both tracks (linked together) for 80 minutes. It was exciting, competitive, and physically demanding. I have black and blues on my knees, calluses on my hands, and my back is still tweaked!

Paul Bordieri runs in a weekly league on this track configuration, and he took us to school. Paul turned a lap at 37.2 secs... which is either a lap record, or damn near it. Abe "Babe" Zimroth was only a 10th behind. I ran a 37.6 quickest lap. I don't have the score sheets, but I'm pretty sure Keith and Sy ran quicker laps than I did. And, I know there were some others in the 37 second range. This prompted the kid that works there to proclaim that he had never seen the karts run that fast. (We think it was his first day on the job!) Paul says the league generally runs high 37's and low 38's.

The day was not without its share of bumping and grinding. Some of which was tolerated by the F1 Boston staff... some which brought out the penalty signs, and some which was so blatant it even pissed off the competitors with one another! I'll let someone else chime in on that, although I heard after the fact that Weldon got kicked out of one race for being too aggressive!! Is that true? What the hell did you do?

We also avoided some potentially hazardous situations due to our exceptional skill (as taught by Skip Barber, of course!). In one instance, Casey hit the wall on the transition into Track 1. Hampton tagged him pretty good. Bigie Boy MacD came around this blind, flat out, corner only to find the carnage, but was able to put himself into a spin to avoid. Before the yellow even started waving, Sy, Paul and I made our entrances and were all able to spin, slide, or otherwise avoid a catastrophe! Nice work boys!

After our drive time, we were joined by Abhi Ghatak, Skip Barber's new SVP of Operations. He heard we were going to be there, and came out to show his support. He joined us for lunch, fielded questions and sought suggestions around Skippy World issues. It was a very nice gesture. I hope he enjoyed it as much as we did.

For those of you who thought that going to Boston and back was too long a trip, you should know that Abe and I got from the Stamford train station on 95 to F1B in 2H 20M... including a pit stop and a short stint on 95 South (thanks to Abe's crappy sense of direction!). On the way home... we stopped in Waltham Ma. From Waltham to Manhasset (including 1 wrong highway... thanks Abe, 1 fuel stop, 1 tour of the hinterlands of Stamford... thanks Abe, and dropping the directionally challenged boy off at the station) was accomplished in under 3.5 hours.

All in all, not a bad day. I can't wait to do it again.

Actually, I think it is more like 10am start. I don't think they open before that. Whatever time it is though, you must get there a bit early to suit up, sign in, and get 'briefed'. The start time is the on track time!

UPDATE:

I got a call from Abhi Ghatak, Skip Barber's SVP of Operations yesterday and he will be joining us both on the track and at lunch on Saturday.

Thank you to everyone who has responded to our e-mails.

Don't wait till the last minute to respond. It's a great time both on track and off.

OK, here is the question. What are the odds I will sustain some sort of injury seeing as I am leaving for a 3 week vacation on 12/4? The way Murphy has been following me around lately I'd say the odds are good I will get creamed.....

Wonderful!

I'll tell you what I'll stay behind you the whole time (shouldn't be too hard for me) and take the hits for you. That way you'll have a nice vacation and I'll have something to complain about!

No. If all free (including helmets) expect for sneakers
No, for you it's free. $225.00

A quick reminder to all who plan to attend:

Bring your rib protectors!!! You'll need them.

And Doug, may I suggest that you should get ready to pack some pain killers for your trip.

Everything but rib protectors. Those are usually available for sale, but as Weldon found out last year, not always!

Susan,

Pie is a traditional desert of the Thanksgiving Day holiday here in New England. The most popular being Apple, Pumpkin, and Mincemeat.

If you want to bring a Humble Pie, I'm sure somebody will have to eat it at lunch. I plan to make Mincemeat from the turkey's I find on the track.
Can we count you in?

Thanks MJ, I was thinking I could stay at one of my friends' places in Boston and before and after the racing and get a view of what college will be like, but just after posting I realized that everyone's coming back here for the holiday.

I sure would like to come though, so leave a spot open for me if you can.

BTW... Those personal flotation devices (PFD's) we used as podium props for the LRP finale make excellent flak jackets. They offer about twice the padding of a flack jacket and their design includes unrestricted arm movement for water skiing (and driving). I've used mine in the Endurance Karting events and it really gets the job done.

Re: F1 Boston Turkey Day Shootout 2005

I'll assist with this one and ask Donald to look over my shoulder and make additions or corrections.

We own the track (both courses) for a set period of time. (Don't know how long the session is... Donald?) Start time has been reported as 10a with early arrival (9a) important to get outfitted wtih equipment and receive a track briefing. It's our private group but we race against each other as individuals. If all the alloted spaces are filled the cost is $225 per person. You'd have nothing but fun Ari.

Ari

Typically, we run for an hour on a closed track. Then, a bunch of us usually sign up for extra races with the gen'l public. Not sure if MacDod has anything else planned.

Donald

Count P4 Interloper in as well... although he is already bitching about not being able to do the whole session cause he'll be sore! And I thought I married the only woman in that family.

He, is a mere interloper. You sir are a busybody, a buttinsky, and a quidnunc!

Doesn't work if you want the whole track (which you do). They have to set it up that way. There are usually 4 or 5 races with short breaks in between.

I'm looking to do a half share with someone. Less seat time for you but you'd get a break between races.

I'll be practising my gramer and spelling during my breck.

Is F1Boston anything like Karttrak (a palindrome) in Connecticut? www.karttrak.com

From the pics, I'd say F1B is MUCH more sophisticated. Did you check out its website?

F1 is bigger and better than Kart Trak
Kart Trak is rinky-dinky comparred to the 2 storries and 2 courses of F1 Boston

Okay ladies and gentlemen we're up to 12 with David Gionfriddo confirming his attendance.

Don't wait until the last minute as there may not be a space for you!

Remember we're giving out prizes this year and we guarantee a good time!

Re: F1 Boston Turkey Day Shootout 2005

Sorry guys, I really wish I could but I've been kind of lonely here in Pittsburgh while all my friends are off at college, and I can't leave for the one weekend they'll all be back.

If you hold another on a non holiday weekend I'll be the first to sign up!

Ari, glad you are on the list. From Western CT it's an easy day trip, early drive up, intense karting (and it's not one continuous race, lots of short races), lunch, drive home.

F1B outside Boston on the southwest side, it took less than 2 hrs from Stamford last time.

see you there
