iSport speeds to top spot at GP2 series launch
06/04/2005
The iSport International team was the quickest over the two qualifying sessions for the allocation of race numbers at the GP2 series launch at Circuit Paul Ricard.
Two thrilling qualifying sessions have seen iSport International top the times in the battle for 2005 race number allocation for the GP2 series. At the hands of Scott Speed, iSport set a blistering lap in the second session which could not be matched by any of their rivals. Second spot went to Hitech Piquet Sports and their driver Nelson Piquet Jr, with BCN Competicion finishing third with Ernesto Viso despite a spin which finished his session early.
Many had expected to see the F3000 benchmark squad Arden International at the head of the field, but with Nicolas Lapierre spinning to a halt in the first session, it was up to Heikki Kovalainen to do all the work. His best lap, however, was only good enough for a provisional 11th position.
