Round #14 - '06 Fantasy F1 - Turkish GP - Picks and Results
Next round: The Turkish Grand Prix @ Istanbul Park.
Picks are due here before Saturday, August 26th, 7:00AM. SpeedTV will be broadcasting qualifying live starting at the same time.
IMPORTANT!:YOU ARE AT RISK OF GOING 'OVER' YOUR PICK ALLOCATIONS.Please make sure you have reviewed your pick totals using the spreadsheet link below, and that you have planned accordingly!
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT - "Best of the Rest" Competition
In order to keep things interesting for the last five rounds of the competition, we're sponsoring a "Best of the Rest" competition for those of you who've been smart enough to hold your best picks for these last few rounds. Given that the average score for our Fantasy F1 players has been ~23 points per week, all those players who have scored at or below that number (beginning with Mr. Jim Craige in 19th position) are eligible for our "FAST FINISHER AWARD for 2006." So for those of you who qualify, don't give up on the Fantasy F1 season just yet as you can still be a winner even if you don't make the overall Team Juicy Fantasy F1 podium. Stay focused, stay tuned, and keep those picks coming as you never know what may happen "up front" in the race!
------
Here are the current standings:
IMPORTANT: Please check your pick totals by clicking here - which will also give you the full spreadsheet. If we've made any mistakes, please let us know ASAP. THERE ARE MULTIPLE TABS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SHEETS - Click on them to see your pick totals, etc. For the actual excel spreadsheet itself, you can download it by clicking here.

Re: Round #14 - '06 Fantasy F1 - Turkish GP - Picks due Sat Aug 26th 7:00AM
I would like to take this opportunity to thank MacDod for drawing attention to those of us in the bottom fifteen. Not content with allowing us the chance to slip under the radar and keep a small amount of dignity, he thought it would be a good idea to highlight out poor results with this "Fast Finisher Award" thing.
Next thing you know, we will be sitting at our own special table at the TJR award's ceremony. I can see it now! The legs on the table and chairs will be 8 inches shorter and there will be a paper table cloth and lots and lots of crayons! We will be served pigs in a blanket and macaroni and cheese. This way we won't need knives and forks which will cut down on the chance that we hurt ourselves. We will use plastic spoons.
Let me tell you, MacDod, I can do wonders with a plastic spoon!
Until then:

Jim,
It could have been worse.
I could have referred to you as "average" and reduced your exisitence to a number.

Re: Round #14 - '06 Fantasy F1 - Turkish GP - Picks due Sat Aug 26th 7:00AM
Ruprecht with hand raised...
"Excuse me... May I go to the bathroom please?"
Michael Caine, "Why yes Ruprecht you may..."
A look of pleasured cross-eyed release happily falls across Ruprecht's face as we realize he has dispensed with the bother of actually going into the bathroom and takes care of business hunched over the dinner table with corked fork and eye patch still in place. When the release has finished he refocuses on Michael Caine and his female guest (who is appropriately speechless) and does the right thing...
"Thank You!"
One of the great moments in comedy.

Re: Round #14 - '06 Fantasy F1 - Turkish GP - Picks due Sat Aug 26th 7:00AM
Watertown, CT (Aug. 25, 2006) – After watching this morning’s practice from Turkey on the Speed Channel, Team WatertownNewbie was thoroughly confused. “A 19-year-old sets fast lap? Hmmm, are the big guns just collecting data? Playin’ ‘possum?” Already looking at slim pickin’s (and feeling a bit like being on that ride at the end of Doctor Strangelove), Team WN scoured the available choices and concluded, “We need some darn good camouflage. If I can’t get the real thing, then I’ll settle for part of the gene pool and go for RS. Also, on a course with a four-apex corner, we need someone with four initials in his name, so we’ll go with JDLR, who masquerades under the symbol JP.”
That took care of the A driver selections, but special care had to be taken for the B drivers. As WN observed, “Honda engines have been blowing up bigger than some umbrella girls, but there’s hope this week. Jenson Button (aka JB) announced that he was adopting a three-apex strategy in Turn 8 in an effort to reduce the sloshing around of motor oil. Mark Webber (MW) has been wandering around F1 courses like a nomad in the desert, and now that he is in the desert, maybe this is his big opportunity!”
Lastly, for the constructors division, WN noted that Ferrari (that’s FER) still holds claim to the title of “Team most in turmoil, but with its stuff still intact” (or some similar phrasing).

I have no Renault, no Alonso, and no Fissi picks left!
But Renault has no mass dampers!
No mass dampers for Renault!
No mass dampers for Alonso!
No mass dampers for Fissi!

No fass rampers!
No pass stampers!

No lass vampers!
No ass wampers!
Sorry. I lost it for a moment there.

Tomahawk kicks everyone's butt this weekend with 33 points, and furthers his lead. Tom, the report is yours.
Here are the full results for this weekend's race:

Re: Round #14 - '06 Fantasy F1 - Turkish GP - Picks and Results
So I'm supposed to give a race report huh? Let's see...
First of all - great track, turn eight - you've heard it all before from the SpeedTV guys if you watched the race. Heard it over and over and over... Let's me know when it's on the SBRS Schedule... Nuff said.
Obviously, the championships (drivers and manufacturers) overshadow everything else at this point... I was surprised that Ferrari let Massa check out in the first stint like that...it's easier to orchestrate a position swap between teammates if they're actually close on the track! That said, the safety car clearly disrupted any plans to that effect that Ferrari may have had. Waving Massa through the pits to do another lap behind the safety car so that Schumacher could stay ahead of Alonso would have been too obvious if not egregious...but I would not have been surprised.
But at the end, it was Schumacher's unforced fumble in Turn Eight that cost him as he would have exited the pits ahead of Alonso but for the time he lost due to his bobble in Turn Eight.
Much has been made by the media over whether Alonso is up to the pressure but, IMVHO, it is Schumacher who is showing the stress. Whether a simple error like in this race, or the wheel-banging with de la Rosa and Heidfeld last race (with Alonso already DNFing) or the Monaco qualifying faux pas, it is the seven-time champ who is showing chinks in the armor. Alonso, under enormous pressure, held him off.
Kudos to Massa on his first win - a dominant performance. Tough to imagine him without a seat next year. Sort of complicates things...
Also, a strong race by Jenson Button, who finished only 6-7 seconds behind the Alonso/Schumacher fight. Nobody else was within a minute!
Hope that's what you wanted Sy - back to you!

Re: Round #14 - '06 Fantasy F1 - Turkish GP - Picks and Results
Great job, Tom, thanks. But actually, I was looking for a review of everyone's performance in the F1 fantasy game - like who did well and who duffed, the current points standings situation, etc. But that's ok, as next week's winner and new points standings leader I can do a double review then if you like, and I'll make sure to talk about your short lived but furious lead.
