I really think the problem is that a lot of younger racers don't see the benefit in donating money to the mechanic's fund. I myself have donated, but not nearly enough. That is just because I had no idea that what I gave wasn't enough until the end of the season. I would think that a lot of racers would save their money on something nice to pay for something that will make them faster. It's a similar argument to spending money on a HANS over a lapping day. One is a safety argument, the other isn't. However, a lot of people don't think they will see any gains from donating more money to the mechanics, or any money to begin with. I don't know a real solution to this other than to nag and nag. I mean, you see the mechanics working all day long on wrecked cars. It's not like they are in a building and hidden from our view, so we don't see their effort.
