You're right: it is healthier to drink water. However, if you're really dehydrated, it's better to drink something like Gatorade -- especially the new, lower-calorie G2 -- because water doesn't add any electrolytes to your system and actually waters down what's already in your blood stream. So a little sugar, potassium, sodium, etc. is good. Personally, I bring 1.5L with me whenever I go anywhere and try to drink at least 2L per day -- never drink soda. But I'm sure the instructors and mechanics would probably appreciate the caffiene.
