IMSA Issues Penalty for Exceeding Maximum Drive Time in Latter Stages of Rolex 24
EDITOR’S NOTE: The No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette DP for Wayne Taylor Racing was penalized by the Tudor United SportsCar Championship sanctioning body IMSA for exceeding a maximum drive-time limit during the latter stages of the Jan. 24-25 Rolex 24 At Daytona. Co-drivers Max Angelelli, Ricky Taylor and Jordan Taylor finished third after giving up second place via a driver change and subsequent stop-and-go penalty for entering a closed pit lane in the attempt to rectify the situation just prior to a restart with seven minutes remaining. It was discovered that Jordan Taylor had surpassed the maximum four-hour drive-time limit. The team was credited with a 16th-place finish – the final position in the Prototype-class running order – and credited with 16th-place championship points.
WAYNE TAYLOR, Team Owner, Wayne Taylor Racing – “Obviously, we are disappointed that inadvertently having Jordan drive a few more minutes than permitted has resulted in the issuance of these penalties. We fully understand IMSA’s stance on this and will not challenge the penalties levied against us. We will move forward and continue to do our very best to succeed in our goal of winning this championship, which is one of the most difficult championships in all of motor racing. We look forward to the next round of the Tudor United SportsCar Championship at Sebring.”
