Paul Newman's Corvette went up for
auction (lot 130) at Amelia Island yesterday. I just missed the live online feed by a few minutes and just discovered it sold for $275.000. My hope would be someone local grabbed it and will keep it in the vicinity of Lime Rock... But that's just wishful thinking.
As a sidebar... I had a vague memory of a somewhat famous
sleeper VW Beetle convertible that Newman had fabricated many years ago. My recollection was that it had a Porsche engine in it but that was not the case. Just happened upon this listing while looking for the Corvette auction and was slack jawed at what was done. The price is lunacy, just as the Corvette's was but the pics and story are a great read and it's an insane conversion. Ya gotta love it.
