And of course you are also right. The warranty has been introduced in 2003 but with retroactive effect.
There is no doubt there was a higher number of Kablamos than the company wanted (they want nil), but there were not nearly as much as reported in various forums. If my memory does not fool me there were 47 claims for some 10,000 or more cars sold.
In order to appease the hysteria in the BMW community, this warranty was installed.
Sy, please be aware that said warranty is covering only the engine. And now I am biting my lip...
